In a field characterized by factories where products, processes and technologies are evolving in an increasingly articulated manner, the ability to identify and interpret problems as well as to develop experience-based solutions is a key challenge. Therefore, it is essential to formalize and reuse these experiences through an appropriate representation of knowledge and information.
The platform has been developed within such a context. Its objectives are:
- To minimize and optimize the workflow for incoming orders (Order Management);
- To manage already existing knowledge as well as that generated from the process of project design (Design Management);
- To enable all employees to operate independently and with access to the same technological facilities, in order to simplify the design process and link it with all other processes that take place within the company, from purchases to invoicing systems (Knowledge Management, Corporate Wiki).
The three management processes are strongly intertwined, as a careful knowledge management, generated by the design process, has a direct impact on the optimization of incoming orders. Viceversa, the specific knowledge, generated by single incoming orders, enables more rapid solutions of project design-related issues. Eventually, the knowledge which is generated by both management processes can be made available to all personnel creating the so-called global knowledge.
